The 9 to 5 Window

Missiologists spend a great deal of time seeking to develop strategy to reach the unreached people groups that live in what is known as the 10/40 Window. That phrase refers to a band that stretches across our globe that is measured from 10 degrees to 40 degrees north of the equator. The overwhelming majority of unreached people groups (people who have little or no access to the Gospel, Christianity or churches) live within that geographical band. There are numerous factors that have led to the reality of spiritual “lost-ness” within that geographical location. For example, political factors or geographical remoteness or strict religious contexts—all contribute to the fact that Christianity has not penetrated some of these communities. Consequently, mission leaders have placed their focus on this part of the world as we are seeking to complete the Great Commission task.

As Christians in America, we need to be concerned about another “window” – the 9 to 5 Window. We spend an incredible amount of time at work. Christians need to see the opportunities to be used by God in their workplaces. God can use us to transform these places. God can use us to affect change in our culture as we work in this strategic “window” of opportunity!
